How to connect a LinkedIn account

Link LinkedIn with OAuth so agents can draft LinkedIn posts. Each publish is one post with up to one image and alt text.

How to do it

  1. Self-hosting only: create a LinkedIn app In the LinkedIn developer portal, create an app and add the Share on LinkedIn and Sign In with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect products.
  2. Self-hosting only: add the redirect URL Under Auth, add your API origin followed by /v1/oauth/callback as an authorized redirect URL.
  3. Self-hosting only: set the credentials Put LINKEDIN_CLIENT_ID and LINKEDIN_CLIENT_SECRET in the server environment and restart the API.
  4. Connect from the app Open Connections, choose Add connection, then LinkedIn, and sign in to approve access.
  5. Give agents access Tick LinkedIn on each agent key that should draft for it.

What LinkedIn publishing supports

  • One post per publish, up to 3,000 characters. Count it with the LinkedIn character counter.
  • One image per post, with alt text.
  • Threads are joined into a single post, because LinkedIn has no reply-chain format. The joined length is what the guardrail checks.
  • Characters LinkedIn treats as reserved in its post format are escaped for you, so parentheses and underscores display as typed.

Retries

Like X, LinkedIn has no idempotency API. SocialHandoff retries only when LinkedIn rejected the request with a rate-limit response. Other failures after the request may have landed are dead-lettered for you to check, so a post is never published twice.

Writing for the feed

LinkedIn folds a post after roughly 140 characters on mobile. Put the point first, and use the LinkedIn post preview to check the opening before you approve. The LinkedIn scheduling guide has more.
