Agent controls
This is the main split. Postiz gives agents tools to create and schedule posts. SocialHandoff adds a layer of policy on top: which networks a key can touch, whether it may draft, schedule or read analytics, and whether it needs approval. approve_post only works with owner keys.
Safety checks
SocialHandoff runs guardrails before a draft reaches you and offers a kill switch that pauses all agents. Private-network URLs are refused and the server runs as non-root.
Breadth
Postiz wins on networks, AI media generation, RSS auto-posting and video clipping.
Pricing arithmetic
Postiz Standard is $29/month for 5 channels ($23/month billed annually). SocialHandoff Starter is $19/month for 5 channels and 2 agents. Both can be self-hosted for free. This compares hosted price only; the scope of each plan differs.
Migrating from Postiz
SocialHandoff ships an importer for Postiz and a Postiz-compatible API slice, so scripts that call Postiz endpoints can often be pointed at SocialHandoff with small changes. Import, reconnect your accounts, issue one key per agent, then set approval rules. Details in importing from Postiz and self-hosting.
Who should pick which
If you run a content business across a dozen networks, including video platforms, Postiz covers more ground. If you run agents that draft for you on the networks SocialHandoff covers and need to trust them gradually, SocialHandoff gives you finer control. Since both are open source, you can try each on your own server before deciding, and the Postiz import makes a trial move low-risk. Whichever you pick, keep your agent configuration in version control. In SocialHandoff, the policy file sits in your repo, so changes to who may publish where get reviewed like any other code change.
