Limits
| Character limit | 3,000 characters for a post. The feed shows the first few lines and hides the rest behind a see more link. |
|---|---|
| Media per post | LinkedIn allows multi-image posts, documents, and video. SocialHandoff publishes 1 image per post. |
| Alt text | Supported on images through the API's alt text field. Not available for video or documents. |
| Threads | LinkedIn has no threads. If a draft has several parts, SocialHandoff joins them into one post. |
| Links | URLs in the text stay clickable, and LinkedIn may add a preview. Long URLs count against the 3,000 characters. |
| Reserved characters | The Posts API treats characters such as parentheses, brackets, and underscores as markup. SocialHandoff escapes them so they appear as typed. |
- Write the first 2 lines as the whole argument. Most readers decide from what shows above the see more fold.
- Use short paragraphs and plain line breaks. Avoid fake bold Unicode for key words, because screen readers read it poorly.
- Post fewer, better updates. A per-account daily limit keeps an eager agent from posting 4 times before lunch.
- Tag people only when they are part of the story, and ask first if it is a customer.
How to schedule a LinkedIn post natively
LinkedIn has a built-in scheduler for personal profiles and Pages. In the post composer, click the clock icon, choose a date and time, and select Next, then Schedule. You can view and edit scheduled posts from the composer's scheduled list. That covers hand-written posts. It does not accept drafts from an AI agent, does not route them through a reviewer, and keeps no record of who approved what.
Why a LinkedIn scheduler needs approval
LinkedIn is where your colleagues, customers, and future employers read you. An agent can write a solid first draft of a launch or hiring post, but it cannot know whether the customer named in paragraph 3 agreed to be named. SocialHandoff puts a person in that gap. The agent drafts, the draft shows up in the approval inbox with a preview, and you approve, edit inline, request changes, or reject. Multi-reviewer approvals are available on the Pro plan for teams where legal or a manager signs off too.
What SocialHandoff supports on LinkedIn
- One post per publish. LinkedIn has no threads, so a multi-part draft is joined into a single post.
- One image per post with alt text.
- Reserved characters escaped, so a parenthesis or an underscore in your draft does not break the post.
- 3,000-character check in guardrails, so over-length drafts are caught before review.
- Retries only when LinkedIn rejects a request with 429. LinkedIn has no idempotency key, so any unclear failure stops for a person to check instead of posting twice.
- Per-post metrics where the API returns them.
API notes
You bring your own LinkedIn app with the Share on LinkedIn product and add its client id and secret to SocialHandoff. LinkedIn applies daily per-member and per-application limits to posting calls; normal posting volume stays well inside them. Access tokens expire, and SocialHandoff refreshes them where LinkedIn allows. Posting to Company Pages needs extra API permissions from LinkedIn.
