Summarize long reports into LinkedIn posts with Gemini CLI

LinkedIn is where research, survey results, and annual reports get shared, and those sources are long. Gemini CLI can read the whole document and pull out the finding that matters to your audience. With SocialHandoff configured as an MCP server, the resulting post is queued for review rather than published. That review step is where you check the numbers against the source before your name is on them.

Prompt

Read reports/state-of-support-2026.pdf. Write a LinkedIn post for support leaders with the 3 findings most likely to change how they staff their team. Quote the exact percentages. End by asking readers which finding matches their experience. Under 1,500 characters. Draft it for LinkedIn.

How to do it

  1. Mint a key Create a key for Gemini CLI scoped to LinkedIn with the draft permission.
  2. Edit settings.json In ~/.gemini/settings.json, add an mcpServers entry with httpUrl https://app.socialhandoff.com/mcp and headers containing Authorization: Bearer and the key.
  3. Verify Run /mcp in Gemini CLI to see the connected server and its tools.
  4. Draft Reference the report with @ and give the prompt. Gemini calls draft_post for LinkedIn.
  5. Fact-check and approve Compare the numbers in the inbox with the report, then approve.

Example draft

We surveyed 400 support teams this year. Three findings stood out for anyone planning headcount:

62% of tickets are now resolved without a human reply. The work that is left is harder and takes longer.

Teams that route by skill instead of by queue resolve complex tickets 27% faster.

Only 18% of teams have a plan for weekend coverage that does not rely on on-call engineers.

The common thread: fewer tickets does not mean fewer people. It means different people.

Which of these matches what you see on your team?

Gotchas

  • Numbers pulled by a model from a long PDF can drift. Check each figure against the source in the inbox before approving.
  • A % sign is fine on LinkedIn, but characters like # and _ are escaped automatically. Hashtags written by the model will show as plain text.
  • Posts are one piece of text on LinkedIn. If Gemini returns several parts, they are joined with blank lines.
LinkedIn
  • Character limit: 3,000 characters for a post. The feed shows the first few lines and hides the rest behind a see more link.
  • Media per post: LinkedIn allows multi-image posts, documents, and video. SocialHandoff publishes 1 image per post.
  • Alt text: Supported on images through the API's alt text field. Not available for video or documents.
  • Threads: LinkedIn has no threads. If a draft has several parts, SocialHandoff joins them into one post.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a chart from the report?
Yes, one image per LinkedIn post, with alt text describing the chart.
What if Gemini CLI cannot reach the server?
Check /mcp for the error. If HTTP is blocked, switch to the stdio command npx -y socialhandoff-mcp with your URL and key.
