From ChatGPT brainstorm to an approved LinkedIn post

Most people already use ChatGPT to shape LinkedIn posts: tighten a paragraph, find a better first line, cut the corporate tone. The friction is the last mile. With SocialHandoff added as a custom connector, ChatGPT can queue the finished post directly, on the schedule you want. You still see it in the approval inbox before it goes live, which matters on a network where your employer, clients, and future hires all read what you write.

Prompt

I'm a head of support. Help me write a LinkedIn post about why we stopped measuring first response time as our main metric. Give me 3 opening lines first. After I pick one, write the full post in about 150 words and draft it for LinkedIn for Monday at 9:00 America/Chicago.

How to do it

  1. Mint a key Create a key scoped to LinkedIn with draft and schedule permissions.
  2. Turn on developer mode In ChatGPT settings, enable developer mode to allow custom MCP connectors.
  3. Create the connector Point it at https://app.socialhandoff.com/mcp and supply the key as the bearer token.
  4. Iterate, then draft Refine the post in chat. When you are happy, ask ChatGPT to call draft_post and schedule_post.
  5. Approve Open the inbox and approve. You can still request edits or change the text inline.

Example draft

We stopped treating first response time as our main support metric.

It was easy to improve. We got faster every quarter. And customers were not happier.

Fast first replies were often "we're looking into it." The real wait was still there, just hidden.

Now we track time to resolution and how often a customer has to write back a second time. Both are harder to move. Both match what customers tell us in surveys.

If your team is hitting its response targets and satisfaction is flat, look at what happens after the first reply.

Gotchas

  • The first 2 or 3 lines show before "see more" on LinkedIn. Ask ChatGPT to put the point there, not a greeting.
  • Parentheses, @, and # are LinkedIn markup. They are escaped for you, so a stray @ does not cut the post short, but it also will not create a mention.
  • Only one image is attached to a LinkedIn post. If you want a carousel, that is not supported yet.
LinkedIn
  • Character limit: 3,000 characters for a post. The feed shows the first few lines and hides the rest behind a see more link.
  • Media per post: LinkedIn allows multi-image posts, documents, and video. SocialHandoff publishes 1 image per post.
  • Alt text: Supported on images through the API's alt text field. Not available for video or documents.
  • Threads: LinkedIn has no threads. If a draft has several parts, SocialHandoff joins them into one post.

Frequently asked questions

Will ChatGPT post to LinkedIn without asking?
No. A new key is draft-only, and agent keys cannot approve. Posts wait for you in the inbox.
Can ChatGPT learn my writing style?
It can read brand memory with get_brand_memory, where you keep voice rules, products, and banned topics.

Let your agents post. Keep the final say.

Connect your first agent in minutes. Every draft waits in your inbox until you approve it.
