Limits
| Media | Every post needs one video or up to 35 photos. Text-only posts are not possible. |
|---|---|
| Video upload | Videos upload in chunks of 5 to 64 MB; smaller files go in one piece. Maximum duration depends on the creator account. |
| Photo posts | Up to 35 JPEG or WebP images, a title up to 90 characters, and a description up to 4,000 characters. |
| Required choices | TikTok requires a visibility setting with no default, comment/duet/stitch toggles, and a commercial content disclosure. |
| Unaudited apps | Until TikTok audits your app, posts are private only, the posting account must be private, and at most 5 accounts can post per day. |
| Daily posting cap | TikTok limits how many posts a creator can publish through the API each day, around 15. |
- Hook viewers in the first 2 seconds; the caption matters less than the opening shot.
- Use photo posts for step-by-step guides and before-and-after sets.
- Mark paid partnerships with the commercial content disclosure every time.
- Keep interaction toggles on unless you have a reason to turn them off; comments drive reach.
- Post one real private video before scheduling a campaign, to confirm your settings.
Scheduling TikTok posts natively
TikTok lets you schedule videos from TikTok Studio on desktop and, for many accounts, from the app: upload, choose Schedule, and pick a time. That suits clips you edit and upload yourself. It gives an AI agent no way in, and no review step between a draft and your profile.
Scheduling TikTok posts with SocialHandoff
An agent drafts the caption and attaches a video or photos with draft_post or schedule_post. The draft waits in your approval inbox, where you check the media, caption, and TikTok settings. The approval screen shows TikTok's consent text, so the person approving agrees to TikTok's terms for that post. You approve, reject, request edits, or edit inline. An agent can never approve its own draft.
A draft with no video or photos can be saved, but approving or scheduling it is refused with a clear error, so a post never fails at publish time for missing media.
TikTok settings per account
TikTok requires explicit choices for every post. In Connections, TikTok settings reads the creator's live options and asks you to choose visibility (there is no default), whether to allow comments, duets, and stitches (off by default, and greyed out if the creator turned them off), and whether the content is commercial. Posts are refused until visibility is chosen.
Trust ladder and kill switch
A new agent is draft-only. After clean approvals you can promote it to publish on TikTok without waiting, and any guardrail failure demotes it. The kill switch pauses every agent and holds queued posts.
What SocialHandoff supports on TikTok
- Video posts with chunked upload and publish-status tracking.
- Photo posts of up to 35 images.
- Per-account privacy, interaction, and commercial disclosure choices from TikTok's live creator options.
- Consent text shown at approval.
- Background token renewal for TikTok's 24-hour access tokens.
If TikTok is still moderating a post when SocialHandoff stops checking, the post is recorded with its publish id rather than uploaded again, so you never get a duplicate.
Setup notes
You connect through your own TikTok developer app with Login Kit and the Content Posting API. Until TikTok audits that app, every post is private, the account must be private, and only 5 accounts can post per day. Submit the audit to post publicly. Photo posts also need the domain that serves your media verified in the TikTok developer portal.
Tools, templates, and agent guides
Check video and photo dimensions in the image size guide and compare caption lengths with the cross-post length checker. Templates that adapt well to short video: behind-the-scenes post, tips thread, and myth-busting post.
