Prompt
I run a small bakery software company. Give me three different Threads posts about why we still answer every support email ourselves, then save the warmest one as a draft for Threads. Under 400 characters, no hashtags, end with a question. How to do it
- Mint a Threads agent key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, connect your Threads account, then create an agent key scoped to Threads with draft permission only. Copy the key when it is shown; only its hash is stored.
- Add the stdio server Open claude_desktop_config.json and add an mcpServers entry that runs npx -y socialhandoff-mcp with your instance URL and the Threads key. The key-mint dialog prints this block ready to paste.
- Restart and check the tools Quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. The tools menu should list draft_post, schedule_post, and preview_posts.
- Draft from the conversation Ask Claude for the Threads post. It calls draft_post, then preview_posts so you see the approval card inline. Approve or edit it in the inbox on desktop or phone.
Example draft
We are a team of 6 and we still answer every support email ourselves. Not a bot, not a ticket form. Last week a baker in Leeds told us our export was off by a penny per loaf, and she was right. That fix shipped the same afternoon. What is one thing you refuse to outsource?
Gotchas
- Threads allows 250 posts per account in any 24 hours. The quota is checked before each publish, so a post that would go over it is stopped before it is sent rather than failing at the network.
- Threads fetches images and video from your instance at signed, expiring URLs, so you do not need a separate public media host. The API itself must be reachable over public HTTPS; an instance that only runs on localhost cannot publish media to Threads.
- Keep each Threads post within 500 characters, and remember that Threads counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, so a few emoji use more of the limit than they appear to. The per-network length guardrail flags longer drafts before they reach the inbox.
- Claude Desktop reads its config only at launch. After editing claude_desktop_config.json, quit the app fully, not just the window, or the tools will not appear.
- Character limit: 500 characters per post. Emoji count as their UTF-8 bytes, so an emoji can use up to 4 characters of the limit.
- Links: Up to 5 links per post. Threads generates a preview for the first one.
- Carousels: 2 to 20 images or videos in one carousel post.
- Image files: JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Threads fetches each file from a URL at publish time.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude Desktop publish to Threads by itself?
No. With a draft-only key, Claude Desktop can create and preview Threads posts but not publish them. You approve in the inbox, or promote the agent on the trust ladder once it has a clean record.
What can a Threads post include?
Text up to 500 characters, a single image or video, or a carousel of 2 to 20 items, with alt text on images. A longer idea can go out as a reply-chain thread, and every part waits for approval like any other draft.
How do I connect Threads?
Open Connections in https://app.socialhandoff.com and sign in with your Threads account through the operator's own Meta developer app. Until Meta's app review approves that app, only its listed testers can publish.
