Prompt
We just finished the migration that made our photo editor load 3x faster on older phones. Write a Threads post for users, not engineers, about the speedup. Under 300 characters, upbeat but not salesy. How to do it
- Mint a Threads agent key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, connect your Threads account, then create an agent key scoped to Threads with draft permission only. Copy the key when it is shown; only its hash is stored.
- Open the MCP servers panel In Cline, open MCP Servers, choose to configure, and edit cline_mcp_settings.json.
- Add the server Add an entry that runs npx -y socialhandoff-mcp with your instance URL and Threads key, or a streamable HTTP entry for https://app.socialhandoff.com/mcp with a bearer header.
- Draft in a task Start a task and ask Cline to write the Threads post from the files it just changed. Approve its draft_post call, then approve the post itself in the inbox.
Example draft
If you edit photos on an older phone, you should notice something today: the editor now opens about 3 times faster. We rebuilt how it loads your library behind the scenes. Nothing to change on your side, just update the app.
Gotchas
- Keep each Threads post within 500 characters, and remember that Threads counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, so a few emoji use more of the limit than they appear to. The per-network length guardrail flags longer drafts before they reach the inbox.
- A draft too long for one post can go out as a reply-chain thread, with each part published as a reply to the one before. Every part has its own 500-character limit, and a carousel of 2 to 20 images or videos can lead the chain.
- Threads allows 250 posts per account in any 24 hours. The quota is checked before each publish, so a post that would go over it is stopped before it is sent rather than failing at the network.
- Cline can auto-approve tool calls. Auto-approving draft_post is reasonable, since the post still waits for you, but keep schedule_post on manual approval.
- Character limit: 500 characters per post. Emoji count as their UTF-8 bytes, so an emoji can use up to 4 characters of the limit.
- Links: Up to 5 links per post. Threads generates a preview for the first one.
- Carousels: 2 to 20 images or videos in one carousel post.
- Image files: JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Threads fetches each file from a URL at publish time.
Frequently asked questions
Which model should Cline use for Threads drafts?
Any model Cline supports can call the tools. The output quality depends on the model, and brand memory keeps voice rules consistent whichever you choose.
Can Cline attach a screenshot to a Threads post?
Yes. Upload the image and SocialHandoff serves it to Threads at a signed, expiring URL, with alt text if you add it. The instance must be reachable over public HTTPS so Threads can fetch the file.
How do I connect Threads?
Open Connections in https://app.socialhandoff.com and sign in with your Threads account through the operator's own Meta developer app. Until Meta's app review approves that app, only its listed testers can publish.
