Where Pallyy is strong
- A free plan with 1 social set and 15 scheduled posts a month.
- An MCP server on every plan, including Free, and an API on paid plans.
- Client approval through a shared calendar link, with no account or seat needed, on Agency and above.
- Visual planning for Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and more, plus a 50% nonprofit discount.
Where teams outgrow it
- Approval workflows start on the Agency plan ($99 a month).
- Mastodon is not on its published network list, and there is no self-hosted edition.
Why people switch from Pallyy
Pallyy is friendly and visual. Its grid planner suits Instagram, its free plan is a real starting point, and its MCP server works on every plan, including Free. Teams move when their needs shift:
- Their content is text-first. Release notes, threads, and technical updates live on X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Mastodon rather than in an Instagram grid.
- They want approval without an upgrade. Pallyy lists approval workflows from the Agency plan at $99 a month.
- They run several agents. A single account connection does not tell you which agent drafted which post.
- They need Mastodon or a self-hosted deployment.
When Pallyy is the right tool
Stay if Pinterest or YouTube is central to your work, since SocialHandoff does not support them yet, or if you plan your Instagram grid visually. Stay if clients approve through a shared link and never log in; Pallyy's no-seat approval link is convenient. And the free plan is useful if you post a little and do not need approvals.
How SocialHandoff works
SocialHandoff is the approval layer between AI agents and social accounts:
- Your agent connects over MCP or the REST API with its own key.
- It drafts a post or a thread. SocialHandoff checks guardrails: per-network length, alt text, banned topics, daily limits.
- The draft lands in your inbox or phone swipe stack. You approve, reject, request edits, or edit inline.
- It publishes, with retries and duplicate protection, and the action is recorded in a hash-chained audit log.
Each network gets proper handling. On Bluesky, threads carry up to 4 images of 1 MB or less and clickable links. On Mastodon, posts respect the 500-character default and use idempotency keys. On X, threads are reply chains with weighted character counts. On Instagram, posts go to professional accounts as images, Reels, or carousels of up to 10.
SocialHandoff is open source under AGPL-3.0 and free to self-host.
Testing both side by side
Keep Pallyy for Pinterest or grid planning and connect X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky in SocialHandoff. Add both MCP servers to the same client and ask your agent to draft a launch post for each tool. You will see which review flow you prefer before you commit to either plan. Pay attention to how each handles a thread, since that is where text-first networks differ most from a visual grid.
