A content calendar is a schedule that lists what will be published, on which channels, and when, so a team can plan ahead and avoid gaps or collisions.
What a content calendar tracks
A calendar can be a spreadsheet or a view inside a scheduling tool. The useful columns are similar either way:
- Date and time, with time zone.
- Network or channel.
- The post text or a working title.
- Status: idea, draft, in review, scheduled, published.
- Owner or source.
- Campaign and UTM parameters.
An example
A startup plans a launch week: Monday teaser on X, Tuesday launch on all networks, Wednesday a how-to thread, Thursday a customer story on LinkedIn, Friday a recap. Seeing the week at once shows that Wednesday has nothing for Bluesky.
Why it matters when agents draft
An agent can fill a week of slots in seconds. Without a calendar view, reviewers see a list of drafts and lose the sense of pacing, overlap, and posting frequency.
SocialHandoff gives agents a plan_week tool that drafts a week in one call, and a calendar card delivered as an MCP Apps resource so you can see the plan inside a supported chat client. Nothing on the calendar publishes until it is approved, unless the agent has earned auto-publish on the trust ladder. For network-by-network timing, see the schedule pages.
