Prompt
On the 1st of each month, read last month's active-customer count from our Stripe export and the top feature from our changelog sheet, then draft a Threads milestone post. POST to the REST API with networks ["threads"] and mode submit. How to do it
- Mint a Threads agent key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, connect your Threads account, then create an agent key scoped to Threads with draft permission only. Copy the key when it is shown; only its hash is stored.
- Build the trigger module Start the scenario with a watch module: new RSS items, new rows, a webhook, or a scheduled run.
- Add HTTP Make a request Method POST, URL https://app.socialhandoff.com/v1/posts, header Authorization: Bearer with the key, body type JSON with body, networks ["threads"], and mode "submit".
- Map fields and run once Map the trigger's fields into body, run the scenario once, and approve or reject the result in the inbox before scheduling the scenario.
Example draft
September in numbers: 1,240 teams now plan their week with us, up from 1,090 in August. The feature you used most was shared templates, launched on the 9th. Thank you for the feedback that shaped it. More on what is coming next soon.
Gotchas
- Keep each Threads post within 500 characters, and remember that Threads counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, so a few emoji use more of the limit than they appear to. The per-network length guardrail flags longer drafts before they reach the inbox.
- A draft too long for one post can go out as a reply-chain thread, with each part published as a reply to the one before. Every part has its own 500-character limit, and a carousel of 2 to 20 images or videos can lead the chain.
- Threads allows 250 posts per account in any 24 hours. The quota is checked before each publish, so a post that would go over it is stopped before it is sent rather than failing at the network.
- Make runs the HTTP module once per bundle. If your trigger returns 20 items, you get 20 drafts; add a filter or limit before the request.
- Character limit: 500 characters per post. Emoji count as their UTF-8 bytes, so an emoji can use up to 4 characters of the limit.
- Links: Up to 5 links per post. Threads generates a preview for the first one.
- Carousels: 2 to 20 images or videos in one carousel post.
- Image files: JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Threads fetches each file from a URL at publish time.
Frequently asked questions
Can Make read the approval result?
Yes. Register an outbound webhook for post.published or post.failed and point it at a Make custom webhook to continue the scenario.
Can one Make run draft for Threads and Bluesky together?
Yes. Put both in networks. Each network gets its own target, checked against its own length rule, and you approve them in one card.
Can I post videos to Threads?
Yes. Threads takes a single video, or mixes videos and images in a carousel of 2 to 20 items. SocialHandoff serves the file at a signed URL, so the only requirement is that your API is reachable over public HTTPS.
