Prompt
Crew for client 'Harbor Yoga': researcher reads their class schedule for next week, writer drafts one Threads post promoting the new Sunday sunrise class, reviewer checks it is under 350 characters and matches brand memory. Writer calls draft_post for threads. How to do it
- Mint a Threads agent key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, connect your Threads account, then create an agent key scoped to Threads with draft permission only. Copy the key when it is shown; only its hash is stored.
- Wrap the server Use MCPServerAdapter from crewai-tools with a streamable-http transport at https://app.socialhandoff.com/mcp and the bearer key in the headers.
- Give tools to one agent Assign the adapter's tools to the crew member that writes Threads copy. Researcher and editor agents do not need them.
- Kick off the crew Run the crew. The writer calls draft_post as its last task and returns the post id, which a person then approves in the inbox.
Example draft
New this Sunday: sunrise flow at 6:30am on the harbor deck. 45 gentle minutes as the boats head out, suitable for every level, mats provided. Spots are limited to 20, so book early in the app.
Gotchas
- Threads allows 250 posts per account in any 24 hours. The quota is checked before each publish, so a post that would go over it is stopped before it is sent rather than failing at the network.
- Threads fetches images and video from your instance at signed, expiring URLs, so you do not need a separate public media host. The API itself must be reachable over public HTTPS; an instance that only runs on localhost cannot publish media to Threads.
- Keep each Threads post within 500 characters, and remember that Threads counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, so a few emoji use more of the limit than they appear to. The per-network length guardrail flags longer drafts before they reach the inbox.
- A reviewer agent inside the crew is not a substitute for the approval inbox. Agent keys cannot approve, so a person still signs off on every Threads post.
- Character limit: 500 characters per post. Emoji count as their UTF-8 bytes, so an emoji can use up to 4 characters of the limit.
- Links: Up to 5 links per post. Threads generates a preview for the first one.
- Carousels: 2 to 20 images or videos in one carousel post.
- Image files: JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Threads fetches each file from a URL at publish time.
Frequently asked questions
Can the crew schedule a Threads post for a set time?
Yes, if the key has schedule permission. The writer calls schedule_post with a time and timezone, and the post still waits for approval unless the agent has been promoted.
Should a CrewAI agent auto-publish to Threads?
Only once it has earned it. Start the agent draft-only for Threads and promote it on the trust ladder after a run of clean approvals; a guardrail failure demotes it immediately.
How do I connect Threads?
Open Connections in https://app.socialhandoff.com and sign in with your Threads account through the operator's own Meta developer app. Until Meta's app review approves that app, only its listed testers can publish.
