Opening a private beta, early access program, or public beta of a product or feature.

Beta invite post templates for recruiting the right testers

Use these when you open a private or public beta and need testers. Good beta posts are honest about what is unfinished and specific about who you want, so you get testers who will give feedback rather than people who will sign up and vanish. Say what you ask of testers and what they get in return.

Tips

  • Describe the ideal tester precisely. 'Teams of 5 to 20 who publish weekly' filters better than 'anyone interested'.
  • Be honest about what is broken or missing. Testers who know what to expect report more useful problems.
  • State the time commitment. Unclear commitments lead to high drop-off.
  • Reply to every applicant, including those you do not accept, and invite them to the public launch.

Frequently asked questions

How many beta testers do I need?
For qualitative feedback, 10 to 30 active testers is often enough. Invite two to three times that number, since many sign-ups will not stay active.
Should a beta be public or private?
Private betas give you closer relationships and cleaner feedback. Public betas find more edge cases. Many teams start private and open up once the core works.
