Draft Facebook Page posts with Cline

Cline shows every tool call before it runs, which makes it a careful way to post to a Facebook Page from your editor. With SocialHandoff connected as a remote MCP server, Cline can draft a Page update from a file you point it at, attach photos if you want them, and leave the post in the approval inbox. Nothing reaches the Page until a person has approved it there.

Prompt

Read HIRING.md. Write a Facebook Page post that we are hiring a support engineer: remote in Europe, what the role is, and a link to apply. Friendly tone, under 100 words. Draft it for Facebook.

How to do it

  1. Connect Facebook and mint a key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, sign in with Facebook and pick the Pages to connect; each Page becomes its own channel. Then create an agent key named Cline scoped to Facebook with draft and schedule permission.
  2. Configure the remote server Open Configure MCP Servers in the Cline panel and add an entry to cline_mcp_settings.json with type streamableHttp, url https://app.socialhandoff.com/mcp, and an Authorization header.
  3. Attach media from the workspace Cline calls attach_media for photos (up to 10, each with alt text) or one video: a public url, or the file as base64 data (up to 8 MB) with its mime type and alt text. Larger files go to POST https://app.socialhandoff.com/v1/media as multipart. The ids go into draft_post as mediaIds.
  4. Ask for the draft Paste the prompt into the Cline panel and approve the file read and the draft_post call.
  5. Approve for the right Page The card shows which Page the post goes to. Approve on desktop or in the phone swipe stack, and it publishes to that Page at the scheduled time.

Gotchas

  • Only Facebook Pages can be connected, not personal profiles. Every Page you grant at sign-in becomes its own channel, so check which Page the card names before approving.
  • Cline asks before each tool call unless you auto-approve it. Auto-approving draft_post is safe because drafts still wait for a person in the inbox.
  • A Page post can carry up to 10 photos or one video, not both. Each photo should have alt text, or the missing-alt-text guardrail flags it.
Facebook
  • Where you can post: Facebook Pages only. The API does not allow posting to personal profiles or to Groups through SocialHandoff.
  • Page access: You need a role on the Page that allows creating content.
  • Photos: One photo with alt text, or up to 10 photos in one post.
  • Video: One video per post.

Frequently asked questions

Do Facebook Page posts need an image?
No. A Page post can be text and a link, one or more photos (up to 10), or one video.
Why does Cline fall back to SSE?
The type field is missing or misspelled. Set it to streamableHttp, in camelCase.
Can I post to a personal Facebook profile?
No. Meta only allows API publishing to Pages. Personal profiles cannot be connected.
