REST API (HTTP module) · Facebook

Build a Make scenario that drafts Facebook Page posts

Make is a good fit for Facebook Pages that post on a rhythm: a weekly menu, a monthly newsletter, a list of upcoming events. The scenario gathers the content and SocialHandoff holds the post for approval. Use the HTTP module to call the REST API with a JSON body, add photos when you have them, and a person approves each post for the Page named on its card.

Prompt

Scenario: every Monday at 8:00, read this week's menu from a Google Sheet, write a Facebook Page post listing the 5 lunch specials with prices, and create the draft for our restaurant Page.

How to do it

  1. Connect Facebook and mint a key In https://app.socialhandoff.com, open Connections, sign in with Facebook and pick the Pages to connect; each Page becomes its own channel. Then create an agent key named Make scoped to Facebook with draft permission.
  2. Set up the trigger Add a Scheduler trigger for Monday 8:00, read the rows with Google Sheets, and join them into text with a Text aggregator.
  3. Import media by URL Add an HTTP, Make a request module: POST https://app.socialhandoff.com/v1/media/import with JSON {"url": public https link, "alt": description} for photos (up to 10, each with alt text) or one video. No multipart needed. Keep the id it returns for the next step.
  4. Create the post Add a second HTTP module: POST https://app.socialhandoff.com/v1/posts with a bearer header and JSON body {"body": text, "networks": ["facebook"], "mode": "submit"}, adding "mediaIds" only when photos were uploaded. The post lands in the approval inbox.
  5. Approve for the right Page The card shows which Page the post goes to. Approve on desktop or in the phone swipe stack, and it publishes to that Page at the scheduled time.

Example draft

This week's lunch specials:

Monday: Mushroom risotto, $14
Tuesday: Chicken shawarma plate, $15
Wednesday: Lentil soup and fresh bread, $11
Thursday: Fish tacos, $15
Friday: Margherita pizza, $13

Served 12:00 to 15:00. See you soon.

Gotchas

  • A Page post can carry up to 10 photos or one video, not both. Each photo should have alt text, or the missing-alt-text guardrail flags it.
  • Build the post JSON with a Create JSON module. Hand-typed JSON breaks as soon as a caption contains a quote or a line break.
  • Facebook Page tokens do not expire, but removing the app's access in Facebook disconnects the Page. Reconnect it in Connections.
Facebook
  • Where you can post: Facebook Pages only. The API does not allow posting to personal profiles or to Groups through SocialHandoff.
  • Page access: You need a role on the Page that allows creating content.
  • Photos: One photo with alt text, or up to 10 photos in one post.
  • Video: One video per post.

Frequently asked questions

Do Facebook Page posts need an image?
No. A Page post can be text and a link, one or more photos (up to 10), or one video.
Is there a native Make app?
Not today. The HTTP module calls the REST API directly, with JSON for both the media import and the post.
Can I post to a personal Facebook profile?
No. Meta only allows API publishing to Pages. Personal profiles cannot be connected.
