How to do it
- Give the agent the source Paste a URL or text into Claude Desktop or ChatGPT, or send it through a webhook from your CMS.
- Slice by angle The agent pulls 4 to 6 distinct angles: a key stat you published, a how-to, a contrarian point, a quote, and a question.
- Shape per network X and Bluesky get threads within their character counts, LinkedIn gets one post, Mastodon gets a 500-character version.
- Rewrite in your voice Brand memory rewrites with your own model key, so the variants sound like the original author.
- Spread over time An agent with schedule permission spaces variants over days so followers see new angles, not repeats.
Source: a 2,500-word guide on onboarding emails. Variant 1 (LinkedIn): the one mistake in most day-1 onboarding emails. Variant 2 (X thread): a 5-step onboarding email sequence. Variant 3 (Bluesky): a question to readers about their best onboarding email. Each links back to the guide with its own UTM tag.
Repurposing is about angles, not summaries
A summary posted four times is not repurposing. Good repurposing finds different reasons for different people to care about the same piece: the practitioner wants the steps, the manager wants the outcome, the skeptic wants the counterpoint. Agents are good at finding those angles quickly. You decide which ones are true to the piece and worth posting. See the content repurposing glossary entry for the broader idea.
Setup
- Connect the networks you distribute on; start with LinkedIn and X.
- Write brand memory with voice rules and add your own model key for rewrites (OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint).
- Connect a chat agent such as Claude Desktop or a pipeline such as Make that sends new articles automatically.
Permissions
A repurposing agent needs draft and schedule. The schedule permission matters because spacing is half the value of repurposing. It does not need analytics unless it is also choosing which angles to reuse; if it is, give it analytics so it can read per-post results.
Measuring results
Tag each variant's link differently with the UTM builder so you know which angle drove readers to the source. Compare per-post metrics by angle, not only by network. Over a few pieces you will see which angles your audience responds to.
Pitfalls
- Length drift. Use the cross-post length checker and thread splitter; guardrails also enforce per-network length.
- Recycled images without alt text. The alt text guardrail blocks them.
- Posting all variants at once. Space them. Duplicate protection blocks identical text, but near-identical angles still tire followers.
Useful shapes: tips thread, contrarian take, question post.
