Newsletter writers and editors who want each issue to bring in new subscribers

Promote your newsletter on social media every time you hit send

The best subscriber source you have is the issue you just sent. SocialHandoff lets an agent turn each issue into teaser posts that give away one useful idea and point to the signup page, with you approving every teaser before it goes out.

After hours of writing an issue, promoting it feels like a second job. Writers post the same "new issue is out" line every week, followers learn to scroll past it, and subscriber growth stalls even when the writing is good.

How to do it

  1. Issue sent, draft created Your newsletter platform or a Zapier flow sends the issue through a signed webhook when it goes out.
  2. Pull the best idea The agent picks one self-contained insight from the issue and drafts it as a standalone post, not a table of contents.
  3. Network-specific teasers LinkedIn gets a short essay, X and Bluesky get a 3-post thread, Mastodon gets a compact version with the link.
  4. Approve and space out Approve the teasers and let the agent schedule them over the following days, so the issue gets several chances to be seen.
Most teams measure onboarding by completion rate. The better number is time to first shared project, because that is when a second person sees the product. I wrote about how three teams changed their onboarding around it in this week's issue. Subscribe to get the next one.

Give away one idea, earn the subscription

Newsletter promotion that works on social media is generous. It posts a complete, useful idea from the issue and makes the subscription the obvious next step for people who want more. "New issue out, link below" asks for a click without giving a reason. An agent that has read the issue can find the idea worth posting; you decide whether it represents the issue well.

Setup

  1. Connect LinkedIn and X, and Bluesky if your readers are there.
  2. Send new issues in with a webhook, or build a flow in Zapier or n8n that posts the issue text to the REST API.
  3. Store your voice in brand memory: how you open, how you sign off, words you never use.
  4. Start from the newsletter promo template.

Permissions

The teaser agent needs draft and schedule. Scheduling is what spreads one issue over several days. Give it analytics only if you want it to learn which kinds of teasers bring subscribers, and review what it proposes with apply_insight before you accept changes.

Measuring subscriber growth

Likes do not pay a newsletter. Tag the signup link in each teaser with the UTM builder and read signups by source in your newsletter platform. Compare teasers that lead with a stat, a story, or a question. Per-post metrics from the networks fill in reach and engagement where available.

Pitfalls

  • Posting the whole issue. Give one idea, not all five. The rest is the reason to subscribe.
  • Linking to the web archive only. Link to a page with a signup form.
  • Same teaser every week. Vary the format; the how-to thread and myth-busting post templates help.

Frequently asked questions

Can new issues create drafts automatically?
Yes. If your newsletter platform can send a webhook, or an automation tool can watch for new issues, each issue can arrive as a draft for approval.
How many teasers should one issue get?
Two or three spaced over several days is a reasonable start. Watch signups by source and adjust.
Does it post to my newsletter platform too?
No. SocialHandoff publishes to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Instagram, Facebook Pages, and TikTok. Your newsletter platform handles email.
