Where RecurPost is strong
- Content libraries that recycle evergreen posts on a schedule.
- Low entry price, with AI content and image generation on every plan.
- An official MCP server that works with Claude Desktop and Claude Code.
- Broad network list, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, and Bluesky.
Where teams outgrow it
- Approval workflows start on the Agency plan ($79 a month).
- Mastodon is not on its published network list, and there is no self-hosted edition.
- X link posts carry a separate per-tweet fee billed by X, according to its pricing page.
Why people switch from RecurPost
RecurPost is good value. Content libraries recycle your best posts, AI helps write captions, and its MCP server lets Claude schedule posts from a chat. The reasons people move on are specific:
- Approval is gated by plan. RecurPost lists approval workflows from the Agency plan at $79 a month. If an agent schedules posts, many teams want a person to approve every one, on any plan.
- One API key for everything. RecurPost's MCP server connects with your account email and API key. When several agents post, teams want each agent's key scoped separately.
- Mastodon. It is not on RecurPost's published network list.
When RecurPost is the better tool
Stay if evergreen recycling is your core strategy. SocialHandoff has no content library that re-queues posts. Stay if you need YouTube, Pinterest, or Google Business Profile; SocialHandoff does not support them yet. And at $9 a month for 2 accounts, RecurPost's Starter plan is inexpensive.
How SocialHandoff is different
SocialHandoff treats every AI agent as an untrusted author until you decide otherwise.
- Draft-only by default. A new agent can draft but not publish. You approve in the inbox or with a swipe on your phone.
- Per-agent keys. Give your Claude agent LinkedIn draft access and your release bot X and Bluesky scheduling access, each with its own key. See agent keys and permissions.
- Promotion is earned. After clean approvals, promote an agent to auto-publish on specific networks. Any guardrail failure demotes it.
- Everything is logged. A hash-chained audit log records drafts, approvals, and publishes, and you can verify it.
It is open source under AGPL-3.0, with self-hosting free and without limits.
Moving one agent first
If Claude already schedules through RecurPost's MCP server, add SocialHandoff's server to the same client and give it a draft-only key for LinkedIn and Bluesky. Ask for the same post through each and compare the results. You keep RecurPost's libraries while you test whether per-agent approval is worth the change. Once you trust the new flow, move more agents across one at a time and retire the old key.
